Who we are
This website is run by Joël Gugler, a documentary photographer based in the Netherlands. For anything related to this policy or your data, contact mail@joelgugler.com.
What this site collects
This is a photography portfolio and blog. There are no public user accounts, no comments, and no newsletter sign-up on the site. The only personal data involved is:
- Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs (IP address, browser/user-agent, requested page, timestamp) for security and troubleshooting. These are used only to operate and protect the site.
- Privacy-friendly analytics. We use Independent Analytics, which is cookieless and does not build personal profiles. It records aggregate page views, referrers, and approximate country/city. No IP address is stored by the analytics tool.
- Security checks. The WordPress login page is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which processes technical signals (such as IP address and browser data) to distinguish people from bots. It is not used on the public pages of the site.
- Email. If you email us, we keep your message and address so we can reply. We do not add you to a mailing list.
Cookies
Visitors do not need cookies to read the site. WordPress sets cookies only when someone logs in to the administration area, and Turnstile may set a technical cookie on the login page. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Embedded content and external links
Articles may link to or embed content from other sites, including Instagram, bol.com, Wikipedia, Voice of America, and Google Maps. Those sites have their own privacy policies and may collect data when you visit them. This site does not control their practices.
Photographs and metadata
Some photographs may contain embedded camera metadata (EXIF), which can include the date, camera model, or location where a photo was taken. If you have a concern about a specific image, contact us and we will review it.
How long we keep data
Server logs are kept for the period set by our hosting provider. Analytics data is aggregate and retained for trend reporting. Emails are kept only as long as needed to handle the conversation.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or object to the processing of your personal data. To make a request, email mail@joelgugler.com. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
